Generally I have no problems with subtitles in films. I mean it is annoying when the projection doesn't quite hit the screen and the titles run off the screen. Or when I can't see over the head in front of me and I have to continually move my head. And yes I was a little embarrassed when a prof showed a film in French for one of my Ottawa U classes and I was the only one who had to read the subtitles. But all in all I like a good film in another language. Well that was until I saw Pan's Labyrinth. I have discovered a fundamental flaw. I can't watch scary foreign movies. Great picture, well I liked what I saw. But there was so much gross (a frog exploding, a dude who kept its eyes in it's hands, blood, bombs, torture and a freaky magical route) I had to keep diverting my eyes. If only they could find a way to project the subtitles onto the floor so while I cradle myself in the fetal position I can still follow the story. |
