[ It's actually about the flames ]

I recently saw pic's from a friend’s tour in Afghanistan. There was a set (that the globe and mail also had) of troops walking down a street in full gear. In one shot my friend is on a knee pointing his gun. It was not a posed shot; the gun was pointed at a windshield of a vehicle not backing off.

I say this to ensure you I have not totally lost perspective. I understand how lucky I am to live in a reasonably safe country, a reasonably democratic country, and to have never witnessed violence like war or a school shooting.

That being said, I did go for a walk tonight as the Flames game ended. And I thought for a minute "this place is becoming a police state". There were pairs of cops in vests at every corner in one block I walked passed 4 pairs of cops.

I guess the good news is the flames won.

Two nights ago, when I walked home (and it was not a hockey night) I had to walk on the street to get around a police van parked on the sidewalk.

Earlier that day I had seen the cops searching two street guys spread eagle on the corner while one of the guys was told exactly what would happen to him if pot was found in his pocket.

But the Flames won, finally.
